Type-species: Sagarana cerradensis n. sp.

Diagnosis. Antenna filiform and slender, shorter than fore wing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1‒6 ), with 12 antennomeres; third antennomere longer than fourth. Distance between antennal sockets more than twice their distance from the eyes. Eyes with reduced pilosity. Head moderately transverse in dorsal view; maxillary and labial palps with four and three segments, respectively; occipital carina complete, joining hypostomal carina; frons convex and setose with median carina, malar suture absent, hypoclypeal depression small, deep ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1‒6 ). Head and mesosoma ( Figs 4‒6 View FIGURES 1‒6 ) rugose, mesopleu- ron mainly granulate and setose, metapleuron coarsely rugose-reticulate. Fore wing ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7‒10 ) with vein 2-RS present, cu-a vertical, M+CU nearly straight, CU1b present, hind wing cu-a absent. Propodeum ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1‒6 ) with poorly defined pattern of carinae but with median-sized areola divided at midlength by a transversal carina. Tarsal claw small, simple. Femora slender, hind coxa small. First metasomal tergite movably joined to second tergite, second tergite fused to third and marked from it dorsally only by a reduction in sculpturing. Tergites 1‒3 coriaceous, forming a carapace covering the following tergites.

Etymology. From the title of the same name from João Guimarães Rosa’s novel that portrays the life of simple people in the ‘sertão’, the region where the specimen was found.
