Remarks: Very common in the catches of coastal fisheries in Taiwan. Previously considered a junior synonym of S. laticaudus from the Western Indian Ocean, but recent taxonomic study revealed the West Pacific populations are a distinct species and resurrected S. macrorhynchos for this species (White et al., 2010).
Conservation status: Not Evaluated.
