Diagnosis. Specimens with maximum known TL 353 mm. Tentacular aperture in a longitudinal, semicircular slit in skin, projecting anteriorly from anterior edge of eye. Nostrils subcircular, visible from above, near tip of snout. Vent longitudinal, transverse or T-shaped. True tail present, with maximally 11 annuli. In males, ventral tail tubercles present or not. Mouth terminal; snout not projecting beyond mouth. Tongue may have longitudinal grooves or not; completely attached to mandibular mucosa. No narial plugs. Palatal mucosa smooth. Four tooth series. One row of scales per body fold. Boldly patterned brown with yellow longitudinal lateral bands. Two species in Amazonian Brazil.
