Diagnosis. Both sexes have relatively inconspicuous elytral foveae and smooth punctate pronota with transverse ridges. Males: clypeus not semicircularly rounded on each side of middle, margin green. Each genital paramere with lateral perpendicular spine ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13 – 24 ). Some individuals have as many as seven very small protibia teeth. Males: 7.6 – 12.9 mm long, 3.0 – 5.2 mm wide. Females: clypeus brown, margin greenish to bronzy-brown. Pygidium with lateral impression broadly concave and with unique hyaline membrane margin ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 25 – 36 ). Females: 8.9 – 16.0 mm long, 4.1 – 5.9 mm wide.
Hosts. This species usually is associated with Carya spp., and has been reared from: Amelanchier arborea (Michx. f.). Fern., Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch. , C. ovata (Mill.) E. Koch. , C. tomentosa Nutt. , and Prosopis grandulosa Torr.
Distribution. Its range appears to be as broad as that of its hosts, and this species probably occurs in all of the states east of those from Texas to Minnesota, reported from Mexico ( Dominguez, 1969) and Canada (Bright, 1987).
