scientific name

Caroxylon brevifolium St-Lag.
status

Caroxylon brevifolium St-Lag. View in CoL in Ann. Soc. Bot. Lyon 7: 121 (1880), nom. illeg. (Art. 53.1 of ICN).

Note: —As a synonym of Salsola aphylla . The name ‘ Caroxylon brevifolium ’ is illegitimate because St-Lager (1880) has Caroxylon brevifolium nom . illeg. was proposed as a replacement name for Caroxylon salsola . This name remained unnoticed until Botschantzev (1974) erroneously listed this is a North African taxon as a synonym of S. aphylla . From here it has been apparently copied over by regional African checklists ( Setshogo (2005: 46, Germishuizen et al. 2006: 325, Klopper et al. 2006: 215).
