Type species: Lymexylon australis Erichson, 1842 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Australymexylon species differ from other Melittommatinae in lacking a maxillary palp organ in both sexes, base of pronotum with pair of small deep impressions, elytra lying flat over abdomen (with incomplete interlocking mechanism), scutellum not separated from scutum, and males with paired setose pads on sternite VIII.
