Diagnosis. This species is similar to E. albilinea Sasaki, 1998 in appearance and in the female genitalia, but can be distinguished by the phallus curved slightly and nearly as long as valva in the male genitalia; and by the ductus bursae looped twice in the female genitalia. In E. albilinea , the phallus is curved conspicuously near base and is twice as long as the valva; and the ductus bursae is not looped.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6 – 9 ): Forewing length 7.0–9.0 mm. Frons and vertex pale brown mixed with white. Labial palpus pale brown, white on dorsal surface; first segment white ventrally at base. Maxillary palpus pale brown, white basally and distally. Antenna with scapus pale brown dorsally, white ventrally; flagellomeres pale brown and white on dorsal surface, pale yellow on ventral surface. Patagium pale brown. Thorax greyish white. Tegula pale brown, posterior margin with long, greyish white scales. Forewing covered with sparse blackish brown scales; antemedian line white, outcurved slightly, dentated inwards at middle; antemedian stigmata blackish brown, connected with antemedian line; distal discoidal stigma blackish brown, 8-shaped, connected with blackish brown spot at costa; postmedian line white edged with black along inside, sinuate, meeting costa and dorsum perpendicularly, inconspicuously bending towards distal discoidal stigma; subterminal line white, incurved medially, joining postmedian line at middle and together forming an X-shaped pattern; fringe yellowish white, subbasal line pale brown. Hindwing white; fringe concolorous with forewing except lighter subbasal line. Abdomen grey.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 20 – 24 ): Uncus large, broad and short, laterally convex slightly. Gnathos large, broad and short, posterior one fourth narrowed to blunt tip, covered with granules distally. Valva nearly same width throughout, apex rounded, ventral margin concave slightly at one third, costa nearly straight. Juxta ovate. Phallus curve slightly, nearly as long as valva.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 31 – 34 ): Papilla anale ovate, one third length of posterior apophysis. Tergite eight about one third length of apophysis anterior. Ostium bursae three times as wide as colliculum. Antrum funnel-shaped; anteiror one third as wide as colliculum, covered with dense granules; posterior two thirds about three times as wide as colliculum, covered with dense tiny spines. Colliculum about one third length of ductus bursae. Ductus bursae looped twice at anterior one third. Corpus bursae rounded, two thirds longitudinally covered with dense tiny spines, remaining area covered with dense granules; signum stripelike, placed at middle of corpus bursae; appendix bursae rounded, arising from anterolateral portion of corpus bursae.
Distribution. China (Gansu, Henan, Hubei, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Yunnan, Zhejiang).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin magnus = large, in reference to the large gnathos in male genitalia.
