Javaulius tuberculatus (Faust) View in CoL : Marshall (1956): 62.

Trigonops tuberculata Faust, 1896: 137–138 . Type locality: W-Java, Pengalengan.

Description. Lectotype ( Fig. 21a View FIGURE 21 ). Length. Pronotum plus elytron 3.82 mm. Integument ferruginous, largely covered with appressed, coppery iridescent scales. Head with transverse angulate sulcus separating rostral base deeply incised, leading ventrad in front of eye; vertex with radial furrows distinct. Eyes asymmetrically convex, drawn posteriad. Rostrum shorter than wide (0.91 X), parallel-sided; apical declivity subglabrous, with sparse erect setae; dorsum with fine median furrow bordered by glabrous ridges. Pronotum 1.12 X longer than wide; coarsely punctate, medially scabrous. Elytra 1.19 X as long as wide; dorsally weakly convex; in front of declivity intervals 3–7 with large tubercle, forming ridge parallel to elytral margin; with numerous smaller tubercles and nodes, these on top with erect, curved, claviform scales. Genitalia. Penis ( Fig. 21b View FIGURE 21 ) with body basally constricted, sides curved to rounded apex. Apodeme 1.88 X as long as body of penis. Transfer apparatus straight, in apical quarter curved. Intraspecific variation. Length. Pronotum plus elytron 3.64–4.05 mm. Female with elytra more roundish, tubercles present but less distinct; tubercle above declivity simple, not forming ridge.

Material examined. Type specimens. Male, lectotype by present designation: INDONESIA, Java: “ Java occ.”, Fruhstorfer ; labels ( Fig. 21c View FIGURE 21 ); condition: right foreleg missing; part of right antenna missing; genitalia in glycerol in microtube; DNA extraction ARC5045 View Materials ( GenBank # OR557450) ( SMTD). Paralectotypes: 2 exx, ARC5046 View Materials (DNA not sequenced), same data as lectotype ( SMTD). Other material examined: W-Java, Garut, Cilawu, Gn. Cikuray, 1800 m, S 07° 18.840´E 107° 52.512´, litter sample 2, sifted, 24-IX-2005 GoogleMaps .

Notes. Faust (1896) based the original description on an unknown number of specimens from the Museum Tring; he did not designate a holotype. Three specimens fitting his description were found at SMTD. These are all labelled “ Java occ.”. The original description cites two localities, “Pengalengan” located in West Java, and “Mons Tengger” of East Java. The syntypes from East Java are unknown to me. A lectotype is designated to ensure stability of nomenclature. A specimen from Gn. Cikuray appears to belong to the same species .
