Liolaemus sp4
This population is distributed in Neuquén province, Argentina. Some of its character states resemble those of Liolaemus araucaniensis , but many traits distinguish it from L. araucaniensis . In addition, its character states are close to those of the species members of the L. alticolor-bibronii group; hence, I have included it in the present study. The differences with L. araucaniensis include: dorsal scales strongly keeled and mucronate in specimens of L. sp4, whereas in L. araucaniensis dorsal scales are weakly keeled and without mucrons; temporals are keeled in L. sp4 and smooth in L. araucaniensis ; an auricular scale is evident and conspicuous in specimens of L. sp4, whereas this scale is absent in L. araucaniensis .
Liolaemus sp 4 specimens have 53–61 (X=55.2; SD= 3.12) scales around midbody; 46–52 (X= 49.2; SD= 1.94) scales between occiput and hindlimbs; 77–84 (X= 81; SD= 2.83) ventrals; 14–17 (X= 15.2; SD= 0.98) scales in dorsum of head (Hellmich’s Index); 6 supercilliaries; 6–7 (X= 6.8; SD= 0.41) scales surround the nasal; nasal scale always in contact with rostral, but separated from canthal by one scale; 7–8 (X= 7.7; SD= 0.52) keeled temporals; auricular scale evident; 23–39 (X= 36; SD= 2.53) laminar and smooth scales of neck; 6–8 (X= 7.2; SD= 0.98) lorilabials; subocular scale whitish in 66% of specimens studied; 6–7 (X= 6,3; SD= 0.52) supralabials and 4–6 (X= 5; SD= 0.63) infralabials; fourth supralabial upturned, but never in contact with subocular; precloacal pores 2–3 (X= 2.5; SD= 0.58) only in males. Max-SVL= 58.07 (X= 53.95; SD= 3.92); head length (X= 11.78; SD= 0.86); head width (X= 8.67; SD= 0.85); trunk length (X= 23.33; SD= 3.31); humerus length (X= 5.1; SD= 0.75); tibia length (X= 6.5; SD= 1.04); tail length (X= 82.9; SD= 3.87). Color pattern: dorsolateral stripes, vertebral line on dorsum of body and tail evident. Paravertebral spots evident, line shaped, located perpendicular to body axis. Lateral field light brown, with vertical black stripes and iridescent light blue scales. Ventrolateral region cream colored, with light blue scales. Throat gray with black spots. Chest and belly spotless. Ventral region of tail gray, without spots.
