Type (lectotype, designated here):—Without location or data but annotated Salvia fruticosa, Herb. Miller ( BM!) .

= Salvia triloba Linnaeus filius (1782: 88). Type (lectotype, designated here):— Salvia ex Mont. Sypili, Herb. Linn. 42.62 ( LINN!).

= Salvia thomasii Lacaita (1922: 186) View in CoL . Type (lectotype, designated here by L. Peruzzi & N.G. Passalacqua ):— ITALY. Calabria. inter Stilo et Pazzano (Calabria), in detrito calcareo, aut rupibus montis Consolino , c. 450 m, 30 May 1921, C. Lacaita 24323 (BM!).

All the selected lectotypes correspond to the current concept of Salvia fruticosa ( Greuter et al. 1986) View in CoL , whose variation seems to follow a geographic gradient ranges from east to west ( Karousou & Kokkini 1997).
