Type: — THAILAND. Kampêng Pêt, alt. c. 100 m, 6 May 1922, A. F. G. Kerr 5958 [lectotype K000760802 !, designated here; isolectotypes BK257989 (image!), BM000958849 (image!), C10011905 (image!), E00313563 (image!), K000760801 !, L0018764 (image!), P00798504 (image!), TCD0016409 (image!)] .

= Bauhinia strychnifolia var. pubescens Craib (1928: 529) .

Type: — THAILAND. Chiengmai: Mê Tûn , alt. c. 500 m, 30 June 1922, A. F. G. Kerr 5958A [holotype BM000958850 (image!); isotype K000760804 !] .

Distribution: —Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand.

Notes: — Bauhinia strychnifolia was transferred to Lysiphyllum by Schmitz (1977), but the phylogenetic results based on ITS sequences in Hao et al. (2003) showed that this species was a member of subg. Phanera and was closely related to Bauhinia strychnoidea Prain in King (1897: 195) [≡ Phanera strychnoidea (Prain) Bandyopadhyay & Ghoshal (2015: 142) ]. These results were also supported by the phylogenetic results in Mattapha et al. (2022). Based on these results, here we transfer B. strychnifolia to Phanera .

In the protologue of Bauhinia strychnifolia , the gathering A. F. G. Kerr 5958 was cited by Craib (1924). We traced nine sheets of this gathering stored in eight herbaria. As a lectotypification is required [Article 9.11 of International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN Shenzhen Code), Turland et al. 2018], we designate K000760802 as the lectotype because it is in the best condition and it could be examined by William Grant Craib in order to describe the species when he worked at K.

It should be noted that the type gathering of the name Bauhinia strychnifolia var. pubescens —A. F. G. Kerr 5958A, refers to a gathering different to A. F. G. Kerr 5958, the type gathering of Bauhinia strychnifolia . The two gatherings were collected at different times and at different localities.
