Basionym of: Spartium purgans (L.) L. (1767) .

Lectotype (López González & Jarvis in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 40: 342. 1984): Löfling 231b, Herb. Linn. No. 892.20 (LINN).

Current name: Genista scorpius (L.) DC. ( Fabaceae : Faboideae ).

Note: López González (in Taxon 45: 699. 1996) proposed the name for conservation with a conserved type in order to restore the use of the name in its pre-1984 sense. However, this proposal was not recommended by the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 48: 364. 1999).
