scientific name

Helichrysum orientale (L.) Vaill.
status

Gnaphalium orientale Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 2: 853. 1753.

"Habitat in Africa." RCN: 6167.

Lectotype (Hilliard & Burtt in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 82: 245. 1981): Herb. Clifford: 402, Gnaphalium 9 [ “10”] (BM-000647005) .

Current name: Helichrysum orientale (L.) Vaill. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Hilliard & Burtt indicated the type as Herb. Clifford: 402, " Gnaphalium 10", evidently in error for sheet no. 9 (sheet no. 10 does not exist), as noted by Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 75. 1983) and Galbany-Casals & al. (in Taxon 55: 492. 2006). Although Gaertner has traditionally been accepted as the combining author in Helichrysum, Greuter & al. (in Taxon 54: 155. 2005) show that this should correctly be Vaillant.
