The type species of Dimetrotina , Dimetrota vaniuscula , is a junior synonym of Atheta pasadenae , a species very similar to the type species of Mycetota ( Aleochara laticollis ). See above for a list of characters shared by the two species. Due to similarity of the two type species, the name Mycetota is placed in synonymy with Dimetrotina . This results in the following new subgeneric combinations in the genus Atheta :
