( Figs. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 8 , 9 View FIGURES 9 – 15 , 16 View FIGURES 16 – 22 , 23–27; Map 1)
Diagnosis. Face with a complex pattern consisting of irregular blackish brown markings, including a median longitudinal stripe. Antennal 1st flagellomere brown to blackish brown on apical 1/3–1/2; arista shortplumose. Brown triangular orbito-antennal spot present. Palpus black. Scutellum with paired elongate dark marks, not confluent with mark on mesoscutum. All femora black, grayish white pollinose except at tip; all tibiae with a subbasal and apical black ring. Wing with complex pattern of brown markings and hyaline areas, including a small hyaline rhombic spot in the brown area of cell r2+3; dark +-shaped mark surrounding hyaline margins of crossvein r-m, with hyaline area continuous from anterior to posterior margins surrounding this dark +-shaped mark; distal margin with distinct pale brown marginal spots at tips of cells r2+3 and r4+5; with hyaline area surrounding crossvein m-cu. Abdomen blackish brown, with grayish white pollinosity.
Description. MALE. Body length 4.0 mm, wing length 3.9 mm. FEMALE. Body length 4.3 mm, wing length 4.1 mm.
Head ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 2 – 8 ) yellow with dark markings. Face yellow, with a complex pattern consisting of irregular blackish brown markings, including an isolated median brown longitudinal stripe, pair of subantennal spots, and lower half of face with paired sideways π-shaped marks. Frons yellow, as long as wide and parallel-sided, with a pair of black velvety rectangular spots on upper part; ocellar triangle grayish black. oc strong and longer than anterior or; anterior or reclinate, shorter than posterior one. Occiput yellow, with a brownish median stripe. Gena yellow, with a reniform spot; gena + subgena about 1/3 height of eye. Antenna yellow to reddish yellow except scape black and 1st flagellomere brown to blackish brown on apical 1/3–1/2; 1st flagellomere 1.7 times longer than high; arista brown, short-plumose, with longest rays slightly longer than 1/ 2 height of 1st flagellomere. Orbito-antennal spot present, brown, triangular. Proboscis blackish brown, with yellow and dark hairs; palpus black, with black setulae.
Thorax ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 15 ) grayish yellow pollinose over blackish brown ground color. Mesoscutum with a pair of narrowly undulated lateral stripes extending to transverse suture, a pair of brown spots along transverse suture, a pair of smaller brown lateral spots behind suture, and a large central black trapeziform spot on posterior 1/3 with anterior margin bifurcated; 0+3 dc, acr in 3 rows (6 rows total), each with brown basal spots; prsc present, shorter than anterior dc. 1 anepst, 1 kepst. Scutellum with ground color yellow distally and darker mediobasally, grayish yellow pollinose except darker centrally along base, and with paired brown longitudinal spots extended from trapeziform spot on mesoscutum. Legs yellow; femora black, grayish white pollinose except at tip; tibiae with subbasal and apical black rings; tarsomeres 3–5 brown. Fore femur with 3 pv and 6 pd, ctenidium with 17–19 short bristles; fore tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 6 a; mid tibia with 1 preapical ad and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with a preapical ad, hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Wing ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16 – 22 ) 2.5 times longer than high; predominantly brown, with extensive irregular hyaline markings; small hyaline rhombic spot near middle of brown area of cell r2+3; distal brown marginal spots at tips of cells r2+3 and r4+5; with brown +-shaped marking surrounding hyaline margins of crossvein r-m. Costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1+2) sections in proportion of 1.7: 0.7: 0.4; crossvein r-m beyond middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M1+ 2 in proportion of 1.3: 1.7; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/9 of penultimate. Halter pale yellow.
Abdomen blackish brown, with grayish white pollinosity. Male genitalia (Figs. 23–27): protandrium a complete ring, thinnest ventrally; epandrium broad, U–shaped in posterior view; surstylus with an acutely triangular outer process in lateral view, with fine setulae basally, strongly incurved in posterior view, and a narrowly curved coniform inner process, shorter than outer process; cercus rounded, papillate, setose; hypandrium Y–shaped, basally bifurcated; gonopod and paramere reduced; aedeagus in ventral view with paired round basolateral processes and with deep incision to distal tip, in lateral view apically curved backward and acutely sharpened; phallapodeme narrow, elongate, Y-shaped distally; ejaculatory apodeme small, simple.
Type material. Holotype ɗ ( CAUC), China, Yunnan Province, Gongshan, Dimaluo (1600 m), 19. V. 2007, Xingyue Liu [27°43’N, 98°38’E]. Paratype: CHINA. Yunnan Province: 1 Ψ ( CAUC), same data as holotype.
Distribution. (Map 1) China (Yunnan).
Remarks. The new species can be separated from the other Chinese species of Cestrotus by the combination of the distinctive facial pattern (similar to C. liui and C. obtusus ), the darkened distal part of the antennal first flagellomere (similar to C. obtusus ), the presence of dark brown spots at bases of acr, the presence of paired brown scutellar markings (similar to C. obtusus , but markings continuous with mesoscutal spot in C. acuticurvus ), the presence of distal dark spots at tips of wing cells r2+3 and r4+5 (similar to C.
obtusus ), the presence of a small hyaline rhombic spot in the brown area of cell r2+3, and in the male genitalia, particularly in the crabclaw-like form of the surstylar lobes.
Etymology. Latin, acutus, meaning sharp, pointed + curvus, meaning bent; referring to the aedeagus in lateral view being curved backward apically with a sharpened tip; a masculine adjective.
