Description:—Biennials. Stem erect, simple, rarely several, only sparsely branched in upper part, 35–45 cm tall. Trichomes smooth, crisply, ± patent or subadpressed. Subbasal leaves mostly dry in flowering time, linear-lanceolate, long petiolate, glabrous on upper side. Cauline leaves linear-lanceolate or linear-oblong, 15–70 mm long, 3–8 mm wide, acute or obtuse, lower ones petiolate, upper ones with attenuate base, superior leaves sessile, uninervate, margins sometimes undulate, trichomes basiscopic, 0.5 mm long on lower leaves, but acroscopic, longer, about 0.7 mm long, sparse, adpressed on upper leaves. Inflorescence terminal, sparse (up to 6 branches), rarely also with sporadic short axial branches. Branches simple or some lower ones rarely furcate, small lanceolate bracts usually singly on lower branches, fructiferous pedicels patent, 3–4 mm long. Calyx lobes 1.5–2 mm long, oblong, later up to 7 mm long, 1 mm wide, subacute or obtuse, inner side glabrous ( Figure 5 View FIGURE 5 ), outer side with 0.5 mm long, stout, appressed trichomes. Corolla small, ca. 5 mm long ( Figure 3 View FIGURE 3 ). Nutlets broadly ovate, (6.5–) 6.6–7.0 (–7.3) tall, L/W ratio (1.13–) 1.22– 1.31 (–1.37), disc (abaxial part of nutlets) subplane, regularly glochidiate, glochidia slim, 1–1.5 mm long, with small intermixed tubercles between glochidia. Style 3–4 mm long.
Distribution:—Distributed in a belt from northern Iran (Alborz) through southern Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia? up to northeast and central Turkey ( Fig. 6). Its distribution range well coincides with the ranges of species in the group of “ Irano-Caucaso-Anatolian species ” as defined by Noroozi et al. (2007).
