PANCHAETOTHRIPINAE View in CoL View at ENA Bagnall
This subfamily comprises 145 species in 43 genera distributed throughout tropical countries, with most species native to the Old World tropics, Africa and Southeast Asia, and a few endemic to Australia or South America (Mound 2009). Nine species in four genera were previously recorded from Arabian Peninsula (zur Strassen & van Harten 2006, 2008; zur Strassen 1979, 1990), but two further members of this subfamily, Retithrips syriacus and Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis , were reported from Saudi Arabia ( Martin 1972). Six species in two genera Caliothrips and Phibalothrips are here new to Saudi Arabia, and one species of Caliothrips cannot be identified to species level at present.
