The Terebrantia fauna of Saudi Arabia
As a result of extensive field work the collected specimens were sorted to 79 species. This added 53 species to the Terebrantia of Saudi Arabia, increasing the total to 84 species ( Table 1). Two genera and six species that were previously recorded from Saudi Arabia could not be collected during this study. Among these species, Aeolothrips asirensis is endemic to Asir region of Saudi Arabia. A. brevicornis is included only in the list of thrips of Yemen (zur Strassen 1990). Presence of the green house thrips Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouche) and Limothrips cerealium (Haliday) that were listed by Martin (1972) could not be confirmed during this study. Moreover, Ceratothripoides cameroni and Thrips simplex that were recorded from Asir province (zur Strassen 1979) were also not recovered. The previous works of Martin (1972) and zur Strassen (1979) did not include any identification keys, whereas the current work provides keys to all recorded families, genera and species.
