Ampedus phoenicium Platia, 2001
( Fig. 55 View FIGURES 46–57 )
Ampedus phoenicium Platia, 2001: 68 .
Material examined. “ LEBANON, Northern gov., Bcharre env., 1 km E Ariz, Horsh Arz el-Rab, ancient Cedrus forest, singled at night, 34°14’33”N, 36°2’59”E, 1900 m, 27.V.2015, leg. M. Boustani, A. Márkus, T. Németh & M. Rehayem ” (2, HNHM); same but “reared from rotten Cedrus log, 20.VI.2016, leg. A. Kotán, P. Nemes & T. Németh ” (1, HNHM) GoogleMaps .
Published data. Original description. Type locality: “ Liban, Zgharta, Horsh Ehden Nat. Res. 1350-1500 m, 8-16.VI.1999, leg. P. Rapuzzi; Sidon, Barouk, 4.VI.1999, P. Rapuzzi” ( Platia 2001: 68).
Distribution. A: Lebanon ( Cate 2007), Syria ( Platia & Gudenzi 2007).
Remarks. The female was described from Lebanon ( Platia 2001), and the male from Syria ( Platia & Gudenzi 2007). Fresh material is known from the ancient cedar forest of Bcharre. Larvae were found in red-rotten Cedar logs, together with larva of Lacon punctatus ( Herbst, 1779) . Collecting and rearing Ampedus larvae resulted three more specimens with the following data: “ LEBANON, Northern gov., Ehden, Horsh Ehden Natural Reserve, reared from Pinus , 34°18’33”N, 35°59’14”E, 1525 m, 19.VI.-VII. 2016, leg. A. Kotán, P. Nemes & T. Németh” (1, HNHM); “ LEBANON, Northern gov., Tannourine env., 2 km N Harissa, Tannourine Cedars Nat. Reserve, reared from hollow Quercus , 34°12’34”N, 35°55’45”E, 1750 m, 1.V.-VII.2017, leg. A. Kotán, P. Nemes & T. Németh (No. 30) (2, HNHM). These specimens with shiny pronotum and yellow body vestiture ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 46–57 ) probably represent an undescribed species, but without available type material of many other species in the region no conclusion is made here.
