Diagnosis. Adult wingspan 7.0−9.5 mm. This species is distinguished by a whitish forewing irregularly marked with light brown at the middle, at the apex, and along the fold. The forewing lacks a black apical spot and a distal patch ( Fig. 46 View FIGURES 46–53 ). Tenupalpa angustella is somewhat similar to T. nephodesma , but it lacks a transverse fascia on the forewing present in the latter. In the male genitalia, the anellus lobes are strongly developed and bear a robust spinelike bristle. Also, the triangular projection of the juxta, the large saccus, and the long distal part of the aedeagus are diagnostic ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 3–6 ). The female genitalia are characterized by a deeply incised posterior margin and a short emarginate anterior margin of tergum VIII, and a small semilunar signum ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 84–86 ).

Distribution. China (Beijing, Fujian, Gansu, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang), Japan, Korea, Russia. This species is newly recorded from China and Korea.

Host plants. Fagaceae : Quercus dentata ( Kyaw et al. 2019) , Q. mongolica ( Omelko 1999; Park & Ponomarenko 2007; Sakamaki 2013; Kyaw et al. 2019).

Remarks. The type materials deposited in ZIRAS of Russia were not examined in this study. A detailed redescription of T. angustella was provided in Kyaw et al. (2019). The male genitalia are sometimes exposed and the morphological features can be observed without dissection ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 3–6 ).
