albiprivus Theobald, 1903 View in CoL
(subgenus Sabethes )
Type locality. São Paulo, Brazil.
Bionomics. In Brazil, the immature stages of this species were collected with sapucaia nut oviposition traps ( Vieira et al. 2020). Sabethes albiprivus was the most abundant and widely distributed Sabethes species c ollected during the YFV surveys conducted in the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes ( Abreu et al. 2019). Also, in the present study, females were frequently collected biting humans at ground level ( Coleção de Culicidae 2023).
Arbovirus infection records. This species has been found naturally infected with YFV in northern Argentina ( Goenaga et al. 2012) and in the Cerrado biome in southeastern Brazil ( Oliveira et al. 2023) but it is usually considered to play a secondary or local role in the maintenance of sylvatic YFV transmission ( Abreu et al. 2019). Also, a Brazilian population of Sa. albiprivus was found to be capable of experimentally transmitting YFV ( Couto-Lima et al. 2017), but not Zika virus (ZKV) ( Fernandes et al. 2019).
Occurrence in Brazil. States of Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Pernambuco, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Cataria, São Paulo and Sergipe ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Forattini et al. 1968, 1986a, 1986b, 1973; Xavier & Mattos 1989; Xavier et al. 1989; Guimarães et al. 2003; Paterno & Marcondes 2004, Marcondes & Paterno 2005; Cardoso et al. 2005, 2010; Camargo-Neves et al. 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005; Marcondes et al. 2006; Pedro et al. 2008; Santos et al. 2008; Gomes et al. 2010; Lira-Vieira et al. 2013; Mascheretti et al. 2013; Chaves et al. 2014; Mucci et al. 2015; Abreu et al. 2019; Cunha et al. 2019; Stanzani et al. 2023).
Occurrence in other countries. Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay and Suriname ( Wilkerson et al. 2021).
As indicated in the key, two morphotype females of Sa. albiprivus occur in Brazil ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).
