The holotype of Pleurophricus stellatus View in CoL sp. nov. and some specimens of the remaining species are deposited in the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo (NSMT). The other specimens are deposited in the Coastal Branch of Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba (CMNH).

In the following description, the breadth and length of the carapace including the frontal and marginal lobes, teeth or tubercles of the carapace are abbreviated as cb and cl, respectively.
