Type Locality: Colombia, Dept. Magdalena, Minca near Santa Marta.
Vernacular Names: Minca Spiny Rat.
Distribution: N Colombia below 500 m in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Placed in the trinitatis group ( Patton, 1987). Karyotype has 2n=48 and FN=68 ( Gardner and Emmons, 1984).
