Discussion.
Whether this taxon belongs to Microdontinae or Syrphidae at all is uncertain. It was described from larvae found in an ants nest ( Wheeler 1924). Cheng and Thompson (2008) suspect it belongs to another family, perhaps Phoridae . Photographs of a larva can be found at http://syrphidae.lifedesks.org/pages/25523.
