Hedysarum dazkiriense Aytaç & T. Ertuğrul sp. nov.
Sect. Multicaulia ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURE 2 ).
Type:— Türkiye. B2, Afyonkarahisar: Dazkırı, Maymun Mountain , Hasandede-Hisaralan villages road, scrub, 1100 m, 09 July 2022, Aytaç 11130, (holotype GAZI!, isotypes ANK!, HUB!, NGBB!) .
Paratype:— Türkiye. B2, Afyonkarahisar: Dazkırı, Maymun Mountain, Hasandede-Hisaralan villages road, maqui, 1100 m, 19 June 1984, Aytaç 1376 ; Afyonkarahisar, Dazkırı, Maymun Mountain, Kızılören-Çiftlik villages road edge, 1300 m, 21 June 1984, Aytaç 1459 (GAZI!; ANK!) .
Diagnosis: The new species is related to H. syriacum and H. pestalozzae . However, it is different from H. syriacum , with by 5–8 pairs, linear-oblong and a smaller leaflets (3–7 × 1–2 mm long, not 4–6 pairs, ovate-oblong and 15–22 × 5–12 mm), calyx 2–3 mm long (not 8–9 mm), teeth shorter to equal to tube (not twice longer than tube), standard 14–16 mm long (not 18–22 (–24) mm), keel 10–12 mm (not c. 18 mm). Also, it differs from H. peztalozzae by smaller leaflets (3–7 × 1–2 mm long, not 5–14 × 2.5–4 mm); smaller calyx (2–3 mm long not 4–6 mm); lomentum sparsely short hirtulous and without setae (not densely tomentose, with or without setae).

Description: Perennial, herbaceous, procumbent to ascending. Stem 30–50 cm long arising from a woody, horizontal rootstock, branched from base, wholly glabrous or with scattered adpressed hairs on rachis and lower surface of stipules. Leaves with 5–8 pairs of linear-oblong leaflets, apical leaflets usually longer than lateral, 3–7 × 1–2 mm., sparsely hairy on both surfaces, stipules scarious, connate, ovate-acuminate, 2–3 mm long. Peduncul at least two times longer than leaves. Inflorescence oblong, lax and elongating in fruit, 5–10-flowered. Bracts ovate-acuminate, scarious to pale brown, 1–2 mm long, as long as or shorter than pedicels. Pedicels 1.5–2 mm. Calyx 2–3 mm long, with subequal teeth, teeth ± equal to tube, 1–1.5 mm, linear-lanceolate. Corolla bright pink, later cream, persistent in fruiting. Standard glabrous, 14–16 mm long with yellow spot at base, emarginate; wings 9–10 mm long; keel 10–12 mm long. Ovary linear, glabrous; style longer than stamens. Lomentum up to 15 mm long, comprising (1–) 2–3 oblong to orbicular segments, 5 × 4.5 mm, with prominent transverse nervation and sparsely short hirtulous indumentum, without setae.
Phenology: Flowering in June–July, and fruiting in July.
Pollen Morphology: The pollen grains of H. dazkiriense are tricolpate, symmetric and isopolar. Their shapes are prolate. The ratio of P/E is 1.55 μm. The dimensions of the polar axis (P) is 16.32–23.52 μm and equatorial axis (E) is 12.48–15.36 μm. Ectocolpi long, shallow, colpus membrane covered by large and small sculptural elements. Colpus length (Clg) is 18.24–21.12 μm and colpus width (Clt) is 1.92–3.12 μm. The exine thickness is 0.80–1.10 μm. Exine ornamentation is reticulate in both of equatorial and polar view. However, the diameter of the lumina is larger in the equatorial view than in the polar view ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 , Figure 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Distribution and ecology: The new species is known from two different locations collected on different dates. It is endemic and an East mediterranean element ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 ). H. dazkiriense is distributed on marly hillsides, scrub, fieldes edges, 1100–1300 m and grows together with Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe var. pallasiana f. pallasiana , Quercus coccifera L., Juniperus excelsa M.Bieb. , Cistus laurifolius L., Verbascum parviflorum Lam. , Teucrium polium L., Astragalus vulnerariae DC. etc.
Conservation status: H. dazkiriense is a locally endemic and is known from two different localities and the number of individuals in Kızılören-Çiftlik villages was ca. 100 and in Hasandede-Hisaralan villages was ca. 150. The extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 8 km ². AOO and habitat quality are continuing to decline because of agricultural activities, for these ArcGIS and spatial analysis programs were used for these. It is considered “critically endangered” CR B1ab (i, ii, iii, v) + 2ab (i, ii, iii, v). This taxon will be under pressure from agriculture and overgrazing in the future (IUCN Ver. 15.1 2022).
Eponymy: The epithet refers to the type locality Dazkırı (Afyonkarahisar Province), which is the collection area. The Turkish name of the new species was suggested as “Dazkırı batalağı” ( Menemen et al. 2016).
