Type material: Holotype: female from Itapecerica da Serra [23°43' S; 46°49' W], São Paulo, Brazil, 19 December 1980, D. Lourenço, deposited in IBSP 19774.

Paratype: BRASIL. São Paulo: Mogi das Cruzes [23°31' S; 46°10' W] (Manuel Ferreira, Biritiba Açu), May 2001, E.K. Kashimata & R. Martins ( IBSP 56458).

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to the type locality of the holotype.

Diagnosis. Females of S. itapecerica n.sp. are distinguished from those of the remaining Neotropical Scytodes by the very large, partially fused hyaline pockets with rounded lateral sclerotized areas at the base ( Fig. 99 View FIGURES 94 – 105. 94 – 96 ).

Description. Male unknown.

Female (Holotype, IBSP 19774) Carapace pale orange with dark brown pattern as shown on Fig. 97 View FIGURES 94 – 105. 94 – 96 . Chelicerae pale orange with longitudinal dorsal brown mark. Pedipalps yellow with prolateral dark brown markings. Labium pale orange, brown at base. Endites uniformly yellow. Sternum cream colored with dark brown, L-shaped markings in front of each coxae. Legs yellow, except patellae, distally dark brown. Femora I–IV with pair of ventral longitudinal brown stripes. Tibiae I–IV with dark brown extremities. Abdomen gray with black pattern ( Fig. 97 View FIGURES 94 – 105. 94 – 96 ). Total length 5.1. Carapace domed, 2.4 long, 1.9 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.12, ALE 0.12, PLE 0.14. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and seven conspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.14 long, 0.22 wide. Sternum 1.14 long, 0.98 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 2.8, patella 0.5, tibia 2.9, metatarsus 3.4, tarsus 0.7, total 10.3; II: 2.2, 0.5, 2.4, 2.5, 0.5, 8.1; III: 1.5, 0.5, 1.3, 1.6, 0.4, 5.3; IV: 2.5, 0.5, 2.2, 2.3, 0.5, 8.0. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick short and stout with triangular and projected socket. Epigynum with narrow stridulatory ridges and triangular foveas separated from each other by their width ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 94 – 105. 94 – 96 ). Vulva with small and rounded spermathecae on short and narrow stalks, adjacent to large, partially fused hyaline pockets ( Fig. 99 View FIGURES 94 – 105. 94 – 96 ). Abdomen 2.7 long, 1.9 wide, covered with slender hairs.

Distribution. Atlantic Forest. Known from the state of São Paulo.
