Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken east of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 2–9 m depth, St. KR28, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Kawauiliaka Island, off northeastern New Hanover, at 3–12 m depth, St. KR132, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on fine sand bottom of sheltered coastal reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
