Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Tigak Islands, Kavieng District, New Ireland, by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 542). Specimens photographed in Kavieng region on 3–5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14, as Paracentropyge multiflasciatusus ).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Christmas and Cocos-Keeling islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Society Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in caves or under ledges of seaward coral reefs, 7–70 m depth. Marine.
