Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 4–5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14); others photographed at St. KVG24 (off northwestern Bauddisson Island) by Serge Andréfouët on 22 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). WAM material (WAM P.28186-004, 1 specimen, Kavieng).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, secretive, in coral-rich areas or coral rubble of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 3–70 m depth. Marine.
