Aphareus furca View in CoL (Lacepède [ex Commerson] 1801)—Blue smalltooth jobfish

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group , Namatamai District , New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 129). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 4–51 m depth, St. KR 110, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 5.—General distribution: East Africa, Comores and western Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to northwestern Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found in lagoons, coral and rocky reefs, 1–122 m depth. Marine.
