Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken east of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 2–9 m depth, St. KR28, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Maldives east to Society Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia), New Caledonia, Tonga and Rapa. Solitary or in small groups, in seagrass beds or sand-rubble areas, 0– 15 m depth. Marine.
