Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken west of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 4–26 m depth, St. KR16, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Easter Island, north to Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia), Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, Tonga and Rapa. Found in coastal and seaward reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
