Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Ningin Island, New Ireland by Munro (1958: 166). A specimen photographed on 4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey. Specimens collected at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell on 14 and 21 June 2014. Specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 25 Dec. 2006 and 4 Mar. 2008); a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). NMNZ material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 3.—General distribution: Malaysia and Indonesia east to Palau and Solomon Islands. Solitary in coastal and seaward coral reefs, 1–50 m depth. Marine.
