Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland as Holocentrum laeve by Peters (1877: 835). A specimen photographed in Kavieng region on 3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 3.—General distribution: East Africa east to Marshall and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northwestern Australia and New Caledonia. Found among branching corals in coral-rich areas of reef flats, lagoon and seaward reefs, 0–20 m depth. Marine.
