Diagnosis. Adult (Figs 12, 13, 29–31). Wingspan male 41–44 mm, female 44–45 mm. The species differs from its congeners by pale, brownish grey or grey ground colour of forewing and the prominent whitish antemedial line in costal area; hindwing maculation differs from other Ortopla species by pale yellowish-grey basal part, indistinct subterminal band and narrower terminal band. Palps relatively large, but smaller than in other species, except O. relinquenda , curved; their 3rd segment small, about one fourth the length of 2nd, covered with dense short scales; in female palps larger than in male with 3rd segment longer, stick-like. Antennae of male fasciculate, densely ciliated, those of female finely fasciculate, sparsely ciliated. Frons covered with short pale-greyish scales, vertex covered with mixed pale grey and dark grey scales. Tegulae grey with pale grey border, patagia with dark bordering, abdomen with crest; legs dark-grey with pale end of segments. Ground colour of forewing pale grey with dusting of blackish scales and brownish patches; subbasal line double; antemedial line double, slightly waved; medial field with brown patches or with prominent blackish patch in dorsal part of wing; reniform as short black streak or reduced to two dots; antemedial line double, dentate, filled with white or whitish between bordering white filling of postmedial line especially prominent in costal area, bordered with blackish dentate suffusion; subterminal line dentate, weakly expressed; subterminal field blackish-brown; terminal line as broken triangular streaks; terminal field blackish-brown with pale patch on Cu vein; cilia blackish brown, in subapical area speckled. Hindwing pale yellowish-brown in basal part, with indistinct discal spot, diffused subterminal band and broad greyish-brown terminal band. Male genitalia. ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 42 – 45 ). Uncus moderately large, about half length of tegumen, curved basally and subapical, terminated by sclerotised pointed hook; scaphium strong, with bifurcate extension apically; twice as long as longer than sacculus; juxta rhomboidal, narrower basally, broader medially; transtilla as wide sclerotised band; valva moderate in width, with parallel margins, slightly curved and rounded apically. Aedeagus moderately large, straight; vesica tubular, curved basally, tapered apically, medially with rather strong patch of fine setae. Female genitalia. ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 46 – 53 ). Papillae anales moderate, quadrangular; apophyses anteriores and posteriores almost equal in length; antrum elongate funnel-like, slightly sclerotised in ostial part; ductus bursae rather shorter compared with other Ortopla species, narrow, with medial knot; corpus bursae sack-like, with small extended bulla in joining with ductus.
Distribution. Sri Lanka, Thailand (Sakhon Nakhon, Chiang Mai, Tak), Myanmar (Magway Pauk). The species occurs in lowlands and hilly areas with secondary forest and agriculture fields at elevation 150– 850 m. Flight period from January to May.
