Type species (by monotypy)— Xyleutes strigifer Dyar, 1910 .
Brypoctia was proposed to include Xyleutes strigifer Dyar, 1910 based on the unique structural characters of the head appendages and thoracic sclerites ( Schoorl 1990). As mentioned by Schoorl, “male antenna bipectinate for approx. 0.4 times its length, labial palpi slender and approx. 0.5 times length of eye-diameter, second segment of labial palpi apically slightly thickened, tegula ventroposteriorly bluntly pointed ( Schoorl 1990)”. Other characters refer to minor details of the thorax which are impossible to distinguish in field determinations and require examination using a microscope.
