Poterium sanguisorba Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 994. 1753.
"Habitat in Creta, Libano." RCN: 7207.
Lectotype (Purohit & Panigrahi, Fam. Rosaceae India 1: 255. 1991): Löfling 673, Herb. Linn. No. 1127.1 ( LINN) . - Epitype (Nordborg in Opera Bot. 16: 98. 1967): Spain. Jaén, Sierra de Cazorla, 1,300m, 20 May 1964, Nordborg 8040 (LD).
Generitype of Poterium Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 189. 1929).
Current name: Sanguisorba minor Scop. ( Rosaceae ).
Note: Nordborg (in Opera Bot. 16: 98. 1967) chose a neotype for this name because 1127.1 (LINN), although original material, was unidentifiable as to subspecies. A neotype cannot be maintained when original material exists (Art. 9.17) so, despite the deficiencies of the material, Purohit & Panigrahi’s lectotype choice has priority. However, under Art. 9.8, Nordborg’s neotype choice can be accepted as an epitype.
