Basionym: Asterionella bleakeleyi var. notata Grunow.

Type locality: Honduras: Lindig.
Morphometrics: Valves 69 (30–125) μm long, 7 (10–12) μm wide, transapical striae (36–38) in 10 μm.
Remarks: This taxon occurred as planktons or periphytic in in Cuba ( Foged 1984) (as Asterionella japonica Cleve ), in Palawan of Philippines ( Podzorski & Håkansson 1987), in Okinawa ( Nagumo & Mayama 2000) and in coasts of Japan ( Suzuki & Nagumo 2004, Suzuki et al. 2013), in Yangtze River estuary ( He et al. 2007), in Guam ( Lobban et al. 2011), and in Chuuk Lagoon of Micronesia ( Park et al. 2018). It is distributed globally in tropical marine waters as a typical form to warmer oceans ( Lobban et al. 2011). This species was found rarely in rock pools along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, and is newly reported to South Korea.
