Erect, fastigiate; uppermost branches arising at an angle of 45° or less with the axis, straight. Baltic region and possibly parts o f the North Sea coasts.

S. oliveri Moss , Jour. Bot. (London) 49: 183 (1911), described from N.W. France, is possibly a dwarf variant of (a).
