15-35 cm, procumbent, with many rosettes, usually softly and densely pubescent. Basal leaves grey-green or whitish, with 2-5 obtuse teeth on each side; cauline leaves auriculate to sagittate at the base. Axis of inflorescence and pedicels usually glabrous; sepals 5-8 mm; petals 9-18 x 5- 8 mm, with a widely patent limb abruptly contracted into a long claw. Siliqua 40-70 x 1-6-2-4 mm, somewhat constricted between the widely spaced seeds; pedicels 10-20 mm; valves with a distinct median vein. Seeds wingless or with a narrow inconspicuous wing. 2n =16. Dry rocks. S. Europe; often naturalized elsewhere. Al Bu Cr *Ga G r It Ju Rs (K) Si [Au Be Br Ge Ho]. This species, which flowers earlier than 32, is widely cultivated in gardens and frequently escapes.
