Trifurcula (Trifurcula) serotinella HerrichSchäffer, 1855 View in CoL
Excluded records: F: Trifurcula serotinella ; Réal 1988: 445— 84
Material. 39: VM, Vincelles, 12.vi.2004, Genista sagittalis, AL & ZL .
Remarks. We have yet to see a correctly identified Trifurcula serotinella adult from France, but its expected occurrence is shown here by the characteristic mines from 39 Jura. The record of an adult by Réal (1988) is questionable and excluded here; it was identified only by externals and 19th century literature, without considering the possibility of various more recently described pale Trifurcula species , for which genitalia should be examined. In the limestone mountains of the Luberon where Réal found the specimen, other small, pale species are more likely to occur than T. serotinella , i.e., T. rosmarinella , T. thymi , T. ortneri , T. silviae , and T. orientella , all of which have been recorded from Vaucluse. Since its primary host, Genista sagittalis (= Chamaespartium sagittale ), is abundant in many of the mountain areas (Vosges, Massif Central, Préalpes, Pyrénées), we assume that it is widespread.
