Biogeographic Comment. This species can follow the Mountain Mesoamerican cenocron ( Morrone 2015) and the distributional pattern of the same name proposed by Halffter (2017).
Color Variation. The body color variation of this species has been documented (Márquez and Asiain 2009). The color pattern of the analyzed specimen is indicated in a general way here: body mainly reddish, with mandibles black, antennae yellowish, ventral surface of the head black (except for the gular zone which is reddish), black color extending towards the sides and a little towards the dorsal surface, where it can be seen as lateral stripes at the level of each eye. Pronotum entirely reddish. Each elytron with a black spot along the posterior margin, except near the inner apical corner; at the outer apical corner it is slightly wider and extends slightly toward the elytral epipleuron. Most of the prosternum, the entire mesoventrite and some anterior parts of the metaventrite are irregularly black. Front and middle legs with coxae and trochanters black, hind legs completely reddish; all three femora paler than tibiae and tarsi. Fourth visible abdominal segment all black; fifth visible tergite black only at anterior margin in 1/5 of its width; third visible sternite with an irregular black spot that is wider in the center (where it almost covers its entire width) and fading to the sides; sixth visible sternite with a black spot similar to that of the third sternite, but smaller, its widest part at the center and not exceeding 1/2 of its width. According to Márquez and Asiain (2009), the analyzed specimen has a similar coloration of the specimens represented in figs. 4a and 5b of that work, a variation that was dominant in specimens from Hidalgo State.
