Apechthis tricinctus ( Cresson, 1865) comb. nov.
Pimpla tricincta Cresson, 1865: 37 .
Holotype Ƥ (IES # 403) in good condition. It belongs to the genus Apechthis , but it is a rather enigmatic species as it has the ovipositor strongly dorsoventrally depressed and weakly and evenly curved downwards, not hook-like as are most other species in this genus (see Gauld 1991). All tarsal claws have small basal lobes as do many other species of this genus. This species is apparently endemic to Cuba, for although large pimplines are common in many collections we have not seen other material of this species from outside Cuba. Townes and Townes (1966) assigned this species to Ephialtes , but Ephialtes sensu Townes should correctly be referred to as Apechthis (see Fitton et al. 1988).
