Scotophilus nigrita (Schreber, 1774) View in CoL View at ENA . Saugethiere, 1:171.
TYPE LOCALITY: Senegal .
DISTRIBUTION: Senegal to Sudan and Kenya to Mozambique.
COMMENTS: Includes gigas and alvenslebeni. For a review of this species see Robbins, 1978, J. Mammal., 59:212-213. The identity of this species is clear and is the senior synonym of gigas . Specimens previously called nigrita should be called dinganii ; see Robbins, 1978, J. Mammal., 59:212-213. KFK suggests that nigrita should be regarded as a nomen dubium, in which case the next available name would be gigas .
ISIS NUMBER: 5301405014023006001 as S. nigrita .
5301405014023002001 as S. gigas .
