3. Impatiens sigmoidea J.D. Hooker (1908: 267–268) View in CoL
Types:— CHINA. Guozhou (Kwei-chou): s.d., Bodinier 2688 (lectotype designated here: P00780758 , image!) ; Guiding Xian (Pin Pa), 21 August 1902, sine coll. 287; Mount Kao-Po, 11 September 1899, Laborde & Bodinier 2689 (syntypes E00313666 , image!, E00313667 , image!, E00313668 , image!) .
Notes:—While describing Impatiens sigmoidea, Hooker cited three gatherings one of R.P. Bodinier 2688 at P, J.P. Laborde & E.M. Bodinier 2689 and 287 at Le Mans herbarium (LMS). As per information available at Index Herbariorum, The Le Mans herbarium no longer exists. The collections of Le Mans herbarium (LEMA) are traced out at E. Bodinier’s collection, at P (barcode no. P00780758) has been chosen as lectotype, it agrees well with the protologue, has two plants twigs pasted on sheet, having leaves, flower buds, mature flower, fruits, dissected floral parts pasted on a piece of paper, Hooker’s annotation as “ I. sigmoidea Hf. ” and “Nerves 6–7 pairs”, illustration accompanied by his determination. While consulting original materials, one controversial specimen labeled J.P. Laborde & E.M. Bodinier 2688 from Kao-Po locality of China was located at the Edinburgh herbarium (E00313668). This specimen has similar collection number as Bodinier 2688 in the Paris herbarium, but differs in other details like different locality, different collectors, collection date and hand written notes. Furthermore Hooker (1908) clearly mentioned Bodinier 2688 at Paris in the protologue (no mention of Le Mans for this specimen). This controversial specimen is probably a duplicate of J.P. Laborde & E.M. Bodinier 2689 (at E), as it matches in all other details and seems to be a case of typological error in collection number.
