Diagnosis. This species is closely related to E. capronata and termasiana , but E. sangayana is distinguished by the yellow-brown ground colour of the forewing with a blackish brown postbasal fascia; the slender uncus; the long, broad proximally terminal processes of the gnathos arms; and the posterior-tapering terminal lobe of the sacculus.
Description. Wing span ca. 18 mm. Head brownish ochreous, labial palpus brown, ca. 3.5 times horizontal diameter of compound eye. Thorax brownish ochreus, tegula brown. Forewing expanded posteriorly; costa convex; termen moderately oblique, slightly concave beneath apex. Ground colour brownish yellow; strigulae and lines brownish; markings consisting of indistinct greyish brown median fascia and blackish brown postbasal fascia tapering at dorsum, atrophied at costa. Cilia paler than ground colour with some brown divisions. Hindwing cream mixed with brownish ochreous, strigulated with grey. Cilia paler than wing.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 15 View FIGURES 15 – 17 a, 15b). Uncus (in lateral view) slender, narrowed in terminal third; terminal process of gnathos arms broad basally with dentate lateral edge, tapering to middle, slender in distal portion; valva nearly parallel-sided; sacculus slender with small basal portion, indistinct median concavity, broad terminal lobe armed with a row of apical spines; aedeagus slender; one large thorn-like cornuti basally and numerous smaller thorn-like cornuti distally.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 18 – 21 ). Papillae anales broad; sterigma moderately large with proximal edge short, concave medially; distal part of antrum broad, median and proximal portions slender; broad median part of ductus bursae with rounded proximal sac; proximal part of ductus bursae slender.
Holotype male: “ Ecuador, Prov. Morona Santiago, via Guamote-Macas, 24.01.2004, 3400 m, leg. Wojtusiak & Pyrcz”, GS 96 (MZUJ).
Paratypes: 1 male, 1 female: same data as holotype, GS 303 (female), GS 313 (male) (MZUJ).
Remarks. The male paratype has a weak brownish grey fasciae in the posterior portion of the wing and a much smaller postbasal fascia; the aedeagus is slightly shorter than that of the holotype.
