12. Phasia brasiliana ( Townsend, 1937:317) (Paraphorantha) . Holotype female (USNM). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Campinas. Preocc. by Phasia brasiliana ( Townsend, 1929:370) (Alophorella) . Holotype male (USNM). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Itaquaquecetuba.
Notes: Herting (1984) synonymized Alophorella Townsend, 1912 with Phasia Latreille, 1804 ; later O’Hara & Wood (1998) synonymized Paraphorantha Townsend, 1915 with Phasia , but left the homonymy between Phasia brasiliana ( Townsend, 1937) and Phasia brasiliana ( Townsend, 1929) unchanged.
Nomen novum: Phasia townsendiana , new name for Phasia brasiliana ( Townsend, 1937) .
13. Phasia dysderci ( Townsend, 1940:889) (Paraphasiana) . Syntype male (USNM). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Campinas and Sorocaba. Preocc. by Phasia dysderci ( Townsend, 1938:347) (Euphorantha) . Syntypes 1 male and 1 female (USNM). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Sorocaba.
Notes: Guimarães (1971) proposed the new combination Alophorella dysderci for this species originally described as Euphorantha . Later, Sun & Marshall (2003) synonymized several Neotropical genera under Phasia , but had left these homonyms unchanged.
Nomen novum: Phasia aurodysderci , new name for Phasia dysderci ( Townsend, 1940) .
Synonymies
1. Archytas analis (Macquart, 1843:196) (1843:39) ( Jurinia ). Type locality: “ Brazil ”. Junior synonym of Archytas analis (Fabricius, 1805:311) (Tachina) . Holotype (ZMUC). Type locality: “America meridionali” [probably British Guiana, Essequibo River]. Syn. nov.
Notes: Guimarães (1971:48) first recognized this homonymy and noted: “This species is a secondary homonym of the preceding one; as both are unrecognized I prefer not to rename it at present”. It is curious that he had defined A. analis (Fabricius) as unrecognized, whereas several other authors, previously and posteriorly, were able to identify this taxon, even proposing new junior synonymies under this nominal species (e.g., Austen, 1907; Ravlin & Stehr, 1984). The original description given by Fabricius is poor, but the examination of the female type, although a female, allows its unambiguous identification. Therefore, only analis Macquart can be regarded as unrecognized. In his revision of Archytas, Guimarães (1961:374) list- ed analis Macquart as synonym of analis Fabricius , which we reinstate here.
2. Jurinella ambigua (Macquart, 1851:145) (Macquart, 1851:172) (Hystricia) . Type locality: Mexico, Guerrero. Junior synonym of Jurinella obesa ( Wiedemann, 1830:282) (Tachina) . Syntypes male/female (NHMW, ZMUC). Type locality: “ Brazil ”. Syn. nov.
Notes: Townsend (1931:159) had already proposed this synonymy, thereafter Curran (1947:66) put this synonymy as doubtful only because the color of abdomen is different. Then, Guimarães (1971) treated ambigua Macquart as valid name and obesa Wiedemann as unrecognized, even though the syntypes of the latter are available for study. Thus, we are now reinstating the synonymy between Jurinella obesa ( Wiedemann, 1830) and Jurinella ambigua (Macquart, 1851) .
