Additional specimens examined: — PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Western Province: Muller Range, Apalu Reke, Blechnum fernland with patches of Pandanus -emergent mossy forest, 5°29.089'S, 142°18.083'E, 2880 m, 19 September 2009, Takeuchi, Ama & Gamui 24751 ( A!, LAE!, and 3 undistributed duplicates!); 20 September 2009, Takeuchi, Ama & Gamui 24817 ( A!, LAE!, and 3 undistributed duplicates!); 5°29.285'S, 142°18.029'E, 2860 m, 23 September 2009, Takeuchi, Ama & Gamui 24916 ( A!, LAE!).
Glochidion urceolare Airy Shaw (1972: 40) View in CoL was previously known only from the type collection ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 : J), obtained at high elevations near Telefomin in West Sepik Province. The species has now been found on the Papuan side of the Central Cordillera .
The urceolate calyx uniquely distinguishes G. urceolare View in CoL from Papuasian congeners ( Airy Shaw 1972, 1980). At Apalu Reke, it is one of the most common subalpine shrubs in the fernland-forest mosaic.
