Daternomina birrarung sp. nov.
Figures 7–9 View FIGURES 7–12 , 55 View FIGURES 55–62
Diagnosis. Daternomina birrarung is distinguished from other species in the genus by having the superior appendages in lateral view branched, the ventral branch being strong.
Description. Head, body and wings brown; wings similar to D. irrorata ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Forewing length about 3.1 times width: male 4.4–5.2 mm, female 5.8 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, about 1.5–1.9 times length of fork 3, nygma present; fork 3 relatively long, length about 1.8–3.2 times length footstalk, footstalk length about 1.5–2.1 times length cross-vein m; r-m and m displaced at fork 3 by about 1.6–1.9 times length cross-vein m; fork 4 length similar to fork 3; fork 5 long, about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 3 times width; fork 2 sessile, length about 1.7–2.0 times length of fork 3.
Male. Tergum X membranous with a pair of small disto-mesal processes ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Superior appendages laterally compressed; in lateral view, branched, ventral branch slightly less robust than dorsal branch ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–12 ); in dorsal view, relatively slender, length about 6 times width, with a small process and spines on inner surface ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Phallus robust, generally tube-like, with spines embedded apically; a single, robust process (phallic guide) arising from near the base of the inferior appendages ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–12 ). Inferior appendages small; in ventral view, fused basally, slender paired apices separated narrowly by a mesal split ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7–12 ); in lateral view, narrowed at about midpoint ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7–12 ).
Female. Genitalia with a pair of large, slightly divergent ‘tongue-shaped’ lobes on sternite VIII ( Fig. 55 View FIGURES 55–62 ).
