Patiscus malayanus Chopard, 1968 . Orth. Cat. 12: 422.nomen nudum. Chopard, 1969. Fauna of India., Grylloid: 400. Yin and Liu, 1995. Shanghai Sci. Tech. Liter. Pub. 119.
Coloration. Body yellowish brown with lateral stripes reddish brown, from head through eyes to tip of tegmen; vertex with 3 pairs of light brown stripes. Lateral view, eyes dark in middle, upper part brown and yellow banded, lower part yellow and black banded. Pronotum yellow, lateral areas along middle line with 2 pairs of stripes yellowish brown; tear-like marks surrounding with dark brown. Dorsal surface of hind femur marked brown.
External morphology. Head almost quadrate in dorsal view, lateral margins slightly convex outward behind eyes, width at level of eyes equal to width of head; head almost as long as widest wide. Frontal rostrum very long, apical margin straight, apical half narrower than at basal half; distinctly produced anteriorly; basal part of frontal rostrum suddenly widened at the level of eyes; middle ocellus elliptical, on apical part of frontal rostrum; head wider than widest part of frons and wider than frontal rostrum about 6.6: 4.3: 1.0. Eyes oval, slightly protruding on lateral margins of vertex; eyes longer than wide about 1.7: 1; antennal scape sub-elongate, longer than wide about 1.2: 1, shorter than head about 1: 2.9; Head longer than pronotum about 1.6:1, head as wide as anterior margin of pronotum about 1.1: 1; pronotum a little narrower than posterior margin about 1: 1.1. Head in lateral view sub-triangular, dorsal margin straight, frons reclined caudo-ventrad formed an right angle with dorsal surface; superior margin of antennal socket shorter than diameter of eyes about 1: 1.3; posterior margin of antennal socket foliate, produced anteriorly, anterior margin bi-sinuate. Maxillary lacinia acute, inner margin curved; maxillary palpi 5 segmented, from base 1st: 2nd: 3rd =1:1.3:1.1; labial palpi 3 segmented, from base 1st: 2nd: 3rd = 1:1:2.
Head in anterior view pentagonal; frons protruding upwards, shorter than face, about 1: 2.4, shorter than mouth-part about 1:1.4; lateral margins of frons divergent ventrally; frons narrower at narrowest than widest part at the level of lateral process about 1: 6.6; lateral process of frons triangular reach at joint of antennal socket and eyes. Upper margin of mouth part arched upward smoothly. Mouth part shorter than widest part about 1: 1.7. Clypeus much shorter than widest part about 1:1.9; shape formula of moth part, width of post clypeus/ ante-clypeus/ labrum = 1.4: 1.0: 1.4.
Pronotum dorsal view saddle like, anterior margin slightly curved inward; posterior margin straight; lateral margins slightly divergent. Pronotal disc with anterior part slightly narrower than posterior portion, about 1: 1.1; middle line shorter than length at lateral margins about 1:1.3; shorter than anterior width, about 1: 1.5. Pronotum with lateral lobes straight on dorsal margin, anterior running into ventral margin roundly then slowly upward dorsally forming caudo-lateral angles; dorsal length longer than width of widest part about 1.3: 1.
Metanotum with metanotal gland, middle transverse prominent indistinct; anterior margin straight, middle long shorter than width at widest part about 1.2:1. Anterior cocavation wider than long about 1.5: 1; posterior concavation wider than long about 1.3:1.
Tegmen longer than wide about 3.2: 1, about half of body length, about three fourth of abdomen. Apex reaching at abdominal segment VII; veins divergent, without stridulate organ.
Fore-tibia with tympanum on both sides, inner one longer than outer one about 1.4: 1; First tarsal segment with 3 white sacs like pulvillus, 3rd segment with pulvillus large and expanded; 3 tarsi about 1.2:1:1.2; inner margin of claws with spine near apex.
Hind femur obviously exceeding abdominal tip, femur equal to tibia in length; hind tibia with lateral spines i/o = 10/8, inner side 2 groups, 10 spines and (intercalary) = 8 (1)2, 4 basal teeth, outer side 4 group, 7 spines and (intercalary) = 4 (1)1(1)1(1)1, 12 basal teeth.
Male genitalia. In dorsal view, epiphallus sub triangular, expanded at joint between epiphallus and cornua, lateral margins distinctly curved inward basad to expanded part; epiphallus longer than width at widest part; epiphallus about 5 times longer than cornua, cornua with apical lateral lobes curved ventrally; cornua digitate, apex with joint point, about 2.4 times longer than widest wide, ventral area distinctly visible.
Lateral view, epiphallus and cornua formed slender rod; cornua truncate at apex; rami reaching at anterior margin of epiphallus, ectoparamere not exposed.
Ventral view, cornua plate like, dorsal area invisible; ectoparamere slender rod-like, exceeding base of cornua, round at apex; median lobe reaching at middle of ectoparamere; apodeme long, bi-forked apically; outer one long, contact ectoparamere; inner one short contact inner lobe.
Subgenital plate elongate, bell-like in dorsal view, truncate at apex; longer than wide about 2.3:1; lateral margins curved mesad, curved part about two third of subgenital plate; distance between curved margins narrower at the nearest part than widest part, about 1: 2.5.
Female genitalia. Ovipositor shorter than body length, about 1: 1.5; curved upward at half, sword part expanding ventrally, about 1/2.4 as long as length of ovipositor; cross section flat, wider than height about 2.1:1.
